AASCI: Africa and Asia Sustainable Charcoal Initiative
ITMO, CA VCM, VCM
The African and Asia Sustainable Charcoal Initiative (AASCI) encompasses two regional divisions, the Africa Sustainable Charcoal Initiative (AfSCI) and the Asia Sustainable Charcoal Initiative (AsASCI), each targeting sustainable charcoal production and practices within their respective continents.
Project Mission
To empower African and Asian households and industries with sustainable charcoal production through TLUD micro-gasifiers and kiln gasifiers, transforming traditional practices into environmentally friendly, efficient, and income-generating activities.
Project Vision

Envisioning a greener Africa and Asia where sustainable charcoal production is standard in homes and industries, cutting carbon emissions, protecting forests, and fostering a sustainable economy aligned with UN SDGs.
Project Goals
Carbon Emission Reduction:
Implement TLUD micro-gasifiers in households and kiln gasifiers in industries to reduce carbon emissions from charcoal production by a targeted percentage.

Sustainable Charcoal Production and Trade:
Establish a robust system for the production and trading of sustainable charcoal, ensuring it meets environmental standards and provides a reliable income source for producers.

Income, Job Creation, and Capacity Building:
Cultivate sustainable income and job opportunities while promoting education and entrepreneurship. Through this initiative, communities will not only produce and market charcoal but also gain valuable skills, enhancing social and environmental value and driving transformative change.
Energy Efficiency Improvement:
Increase the energy efficiency of charcoal production by introducing sustainable technologies that also function as cookstoves, reducing wood consumption.

UN-SDGs Fulfillment:
Achieve alignment with at least eight UN Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on clean energy, economic growth, sustainable consumption and production, life on land, and climate action.

Global Partnerships and Education for Sustainable Development:
Foster sustainable income and job opportunities through global partnerships, while providing education and entrepreneurship training. This holistic approach aims to enhance community skills, create social and environmental value, and encourage transformative change in sustainable charcoal production.
